Benzoyl peroxide wash is an antibacterial treatment for mild to moderate acne (the red pimples and zits of acne!).

Active Ingredients: 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Wash

Inactive Ingredients: Carbomer interpolymer type A NF, cetyl alcohol NF, disodium oleamido MEA-sulfosuccinate, edetate disodium USP, glycerin USP, glyceryl stearate/PEG-100 stearate, laureth-12, magnesium aluminum silicate NF, propylene glycol USP, purified water USP, sodium coco-sulfate, sodium lauroamphoacetate, and xanthan gum NF.

1. Shake product well to mix contents

2. Remove makeup or visible dirt from skin surface

3. Wet affected body surfaces and lather in benzoyl peroxide. This may be used 1-2x/day, depending on your specific acne treatment regimen. If you are using prescription acne treatments together with benzoyl peroxide, check with your provider regarding the time of day to use benzoyl peroxide. For example, benzoyl peroxide used at night time before prescription tretinoin cream can de-activate tretinoin cream

4. Rinse off benzoyl peroxide and wipe with a white towel (Note: benzoyl peroxide can bleach colored linens)

5. Follow with any prescription treatments as recommended by your provider.

6. To minimize dry, flaky skin, follow with a non-comedogenic moisturizer cream (look for one that comes in a jar with a screw-on lid, rather than something that comes in a pump that is a lotion. The reason for this is that lotions are watery and not as moisturizing as creams).

7. If daytime, end by applying a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with SPF 30+ areas of skin that are sun-exposed.

8. If irritation develops, use benzoyl peroxide wash less frequently, use less of it, and/or moisturize more. If this does not help, follow up with your provider for further guidance.

Recommended by Our Medical Team

“This antimicrobial wash is often recommended as part of a treatment regimen for inflammatory acne and is also used to help prevent antibiotic resistance when patients are prescribed antibiotic medications, like topical clindamycin, for acne treatment. It is often less irritating than other types of Benzoyl Peroxide formulations, so can typically be tolerated more easily by those with sensitive skin. Benzoyl Peroxide wash comes in varying strengths and a 5% strength is recommended for the face, as higher strengths may be too irritating. The 5oz bottle will last several months– a little goes a long way!”
